Accessibility: WCAG 2.2, levels A, AA and AAA

The 55 criteria of levels A and AA are law and the basis of the seal; the 31 criteria of level AAA go beyond that and stand next to their neighbours. Every subtopic leads to its criteria, every criterion to its article; the list of all 86 criteria with level is in the column on the left.

  • Images and graphics

    Every image bears its text, and text stands as text, not as image.

  • Audio and video

    Subtitles, audio description, transcript and sign language: sound and image for all senses.

  • Headings, tables and order

    What the eye sees as an outline is also in the source text as an outline.

    Text remains readable, and color is never the only statement.

  • Error, confirmation and registration

    Errors are named and correctable, consequences confirmed, registration does not require a puzzle.

    Read-out programs learn what an element is, what it is called and what changes.

Good to know

  • A criterion shall only be deemed to have been passed if there is evidence.
  • Non-decidable criteria are assessed by an examiner — in the gold standard.
  • The partial seal is valid for 12 months and can be publicly verified at any time.
  • Repeat tests show the change over time.
