E-commerce: findability and performance as the basis
A shop earns only what is found and what the customer endures up to checkout. The audit measures both: whether search engines and answer engines find and cite the pages, and whether they are fast and usable on the phone. Add the obligation: accessibility has applied to electronic commerce since 28 June 2025.
What is measured
These audit areas carry the topic. Each leads to its checks with explanation, measurement path and remedy.
- Search engine optimisationTitles and descriptions, heading structure, internal linking, structured data.20 articles
- Indexing & technical setupWhether search engines may fetch the page, can find it and assign it unambiguously.25 articles
- Visibility in AI answersWhether an answering system can find, extract and attribute a passage of your page: answer-first openings, question headings, self-contained sections, machine-readable facts.12 articles
- Loading performanceLoading behaviour, responsiveness, layout stability, measured rather than estimated.8 articles
- Responsive behaviourThree device profiles rendered in a real browser: horizontal overflow, target sizes, text overflow.9 articles
- Accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA)Measured in a real browser across three device profiles. A substantial share of these criteria cannot be decided by a machine; those stay visibly open until a human auditor has ruled on them.86 articles
Findability
- Indexing: may search engines fetch the pages, do they find the sitemap, are redirects clean, are there no soft 404s?
- SEO: does every product page carry its own title and description, is the heading structure right, is structured data in place?
- GEO: can answer engines cite the page because the first paragraph answers the question and the facts are machine-readable?
Performance
- Core Web Vitals: loading time of the largest element, responsiveness, layout stability, measured per page rather than estimated.
- Responsive: no horizontal scrolling, sufficiently large targets, checked in four device profiles.
Obligation
For online commerce and services accessibility is an obligation (BaFG in Austria, BFSG in Germany). The audit delivers the technical proof with locations; the context is in the report “BFSG and BaFG: who has to be accessible now”.
