Structuring long contributions: subheadings from 500 words
Skip readers before they read; Read-out software jumps from headline to headline; Google shows jump marks in the search result when a post has sections. A long text without subheadings takes the orientation of all three. The SEO check area checks on pages of the post type from 500 words whether at least one H2 or H3 is present.
What exactly is checked
The kernel counts the words of the page and the headings of the second and third levels. From 500 words without a single H2 or H3, the result is with the word number. Shorter contributions remain without results; a contribution with an H2 is fulfilled, even if more would make sense.
Why it matters
Headings are the outline that Google uses for jump marks and answer statements, and the table of contents that builds aloud software from the page. A post with sections answers questions even if only one section fits the search.
- Divide the post into sections, one H2 per section, sub-items as H3; about every 150 to 300 words a heading.
- Each heading shall indicate the content of the section; Questions fit as a headline when the section answers them.
- Keep the levels without jump: on an H2 follows H3, not H4.
- For very long contributions, offer a table of contents from the headings at the beginning.
